Google’s new Voice Free Emergency Operator will be made available on Pixel phones and across multiple Android devices. We’ll give you the 411 on what it is, how it works and why it’s great for users.

What is the voice free emergency operator?

Introduced on August 1, Googles emergency calling operator highlights the importance and growing need for voice free emergency interaction.

The purpose behind this new feature is to ensure that in any case where a person who may be injured, in distress or just unable to speak, can get the help they need. If not with their voice, with a simple touch of a button.

This new touch communication tool works by contacting the necessary fire, medical and police services, which sends an automated voice message to the operator.

How does the new emergency calling feature work?

The feature will be available in the Phone app found on Pixel devices and other select Android gadgets.

You will be able to communicate critical information with an emergency services operator with a simple tap of a button. Instead of having a voice conversation, just tap “Medical,” “Fire” or “Police” buttons during an emergency call and the app will convey the emergency through an automated voice service.
